The Ruins of the Chapel of Ease
There are places that ask us to look.
And then there are places that ask us to listen.
Built of tabby—an enduring mixture of oyster shells, lime, sand, and water—the Chapel of Ease has stood here for more than two centuries.
It has weathered hurricanes, war, fire, and the quiet persistence of time. These walls have lost their roof, their windows, and much of what once filled this sacred space.
Yet somehow, they still have something to say.
Stone crumbles.
Trees grow.
Generations come and go.
And still, beauty remains.
Maybe that's why we visit places like this. Not to mourn what has been lost, but to remember that even in ruin, there can be grace. That time takes everything eventually, yet it also has a way of revealing what truly matters.
History rarely shouts.
More often, it whispers...
Waiting for us to become quiet enough to listen.
