Adventures with Duncan
Independent Documentary Filmmaker | Storyteller
Exploring the history, culture, and people that give places their soul.
I travel in search of stories—not simply destinations—creating films that reveal the character, history, and humanity of the places I visit.

I’ve always believed that every place has a story waiting to be discovered.
Sometimes it’s found in a centuries-old church. Sometimes it’s shared over coffee with a local shopkeeper. Sometimes it’s hidden in a forgotten cemetery, an abandoned factory, or a winding road that most travelers simply pass by.
As an independent documentary filmmaker, I create films that explore the history, culture, and people that give places their character. My goal isn’t simply to show where I’ve been—it’s to understand why a place matters and to invite others to experience it with me.
What began as a passion for photography has evolved into filmmaking. Along the way, I’ve fallen in love with every part of the creative process: researching forgotten stories, writing compelling narratives, capturing authentic moments, recording meaningful sound, and shaping everything together in the edit. Every project teaches me something new, and every film is an opportunity to become a better storyteller.
Whether I’m wandering through the streets of Havana, riding a motorcycle across the Florida Keys, exploring the historic towns of the American South, or discovering unexpected corners of Europe, I’m looking for more than beautiful scenery. I’m searching for the people, traditions, and moments that reveal the soul of a place.
Adventures with Duncan isn’t about checking destinations off a list. It’s about slowing down, asking questions, and telling honest stories that encourage curiosity, understanding, and a deeper appreciation for the world around us.
Because the most memorable journeys aren’t measured by the miles we travel—they’re measured by the stories we bring home.

Old Fiddlers Convention
Portfolio 4
Recently, I had the pleasure of experiencing the Old Fiddlers’ Convention in Galax, Virginia — a gathering that’s as much about the heart and soul of Appalachian music as it is about competition. While the stage performances were impressive, the real magic was in the spontaneous jam sessions — fiddles, banjos, dulcimers, and guitars filling the summer air on Main Street and in the fields near the competition stage. It’s music you don’t just hear — you feel.
Hemingway’s Havana
Portfolio 1
When describing what Cuba means to him, Hemingway said the following:
"I have found that the older I get, the more I appreciate the things that I have learned, the things I know to be true. And the only thing I know to be true is that Cuba is the most wonderful place in the world. I know that I will always love it. I have loved it as much as I have loved any person in my life, and it is where I feel most at home."
This quote captures Hemingway's profound connection to Cuba, reflecting both his admiration and deep personal attachment to the island, placing his love for Cuba above that for a person

Valley of Tobacco
Portfolio 2
Nestled in the western part of Cuba, the Viñales Valley in Pinar del Río province is a region steeped in history and renowned for its tobacco production. This picturesque valley, surrounded by dramatic limestone hills known as mogotes, is a place where time seems to have paused, preserving the traditional ways of life that have defined its culture for centuries.
The history of tobacco cultivation in Viñales and Pinar del Río dates back to the early Spanish colonial period. When Spanish explorers arrived in Cuba in the 16th century, they found the indigenous Taíno people cultivating and using tobacco for religious and medicinal purposes.
The fertile red soil and favorable climate of the Viñales Valley proved ideal for growing high-quality tobacco. Over the centuries, the region developed a reputation for producing some of the finest tobacco leaves in the world, particularly the coveted wrapper leaves used in the production of premium cigars.
The traditional methods of tobacco farming in Viñales have been passed down through generations. Even today, much of the work is done by hand, from planting and cultivating the tobacco plants to harvesting and curing the leaves. The tobacco is often grown on small family-owned farms, known as "vegas," where techniques and knowledge are shared within families, maintaining the artisanal nature of the industry.

We get together often for hunting, camaraderie, and just to have fun. These get together are celebrated with special awards. The concept was born for what will be forever known as the Globe Trotter award

Join us as we explore Alexi’s world—a place where the soul of Cuba is captured in each piece of functional art, and where the essence of true craftsmanship is alive and thriving.
