A Mountain Tradition turns 90!
I’m honored to share that my article about the Old Fiddlers’ Convention in Galax, Virginia has been published in Blue Ridge Country magazine.
The convention, founded in 1935, has grown into one of the country’s great gatherings of old-time and bluegrass music. But what moved me most wasn’t only the competition on stage. It was the music drifting through the campground, the informal jam circles, the young players learning from older ones, and the sense that this tradition is still very much alive.
This was a special story to tell — and I’m especially grateful that one of my original photographs was included with the article.
As a storyteller, these are the kinds of places I’m drawn to: places where history isn’t locked behind glass, but passed from hand to hand, song to song, generation to generation.
My thanks to Blue Ridge Country for including my work, and to Galax for the experience.
